AVIATION

IPP’s experience in this sector spans over 20 years. Aviation security has dramatically changed since the events of 9/11. Even so IPP was involved with high-level security consultancy prior to this event.

Case Study

During 1998, IPP was engaged by a confidential client in the Aviation industry,  to provide the design and project management of a total upgrade of the security management and closed circuit television (CCTV) system.

The massive scale of the airport reflects the enormity of the project. The access control system alone, with more than 800 card readers around the site, processes in excess of 40,000 transactions daily.

IPP worked closely with the airports IT and Communications group in developing the Security Management and CCTV communications protocol to operate over the newly installed Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) communications network. The ATM network is capable of supporting all voice, data and video transmission requirements for the International terminal.

The ATM network infrastructure necessitated the installation of in excess of 30km’s of fibre cabling to provide a common communications platform for utilisation of various technology-based systems including the security system. One of the challenges for the project management team was the installation of the new security systems while the airport remained fully operational. IPP, in conjunction with SACL’s security management group, coordinated and managed the installation of the new security systems, while maintaining the integrity of restricted and sterile areas in accordance with DoTRS requirements.
