Enhancement of Physical and Electronic Security Measures

Because of an increase in risk, Victoria Police needed to enhance both the physical and electronic security measures at a specific site. Concerns arose regarding trespassing and criminal activity, particularly by individuals entering illegally by vehicle or on foot. Victoria Police sought a solution to manage access and monitor activity within and around the facility.

Involvement

IPP attended the site to assess the security vulnerabilities, identify the most effective security mitigations, and determine optimal locations for physical and electronic security equipment, including barriers to deter, detect, and delay potential trespassers.

IPP designed a holistic security strategy for the site, encompassing CCTV coverage at all pedestrian and vehicular entry points, along with electronic access control measures. To physically restrict access to the site, a 2m high palisade perimeter fence was designed as well as access controlled motorised entry and exit gates. The application of intercoms as the means for delivery drivers and visitors to enter upon approval was also included within the design.

Following the design phase, IPP released the specification for tender, managed responses, conducted a thorough tender analysis based on agreed weighted response criteria, and recommended a preferred contractor to undertake the works. IPP supervised the installation process, ensuring compliance with the specification and industry best practices through on-site independent systems witness testing.

Outcome

Victoria Police was confident that its facility had undergone a significant enhancement in  security.  Incidents of unauthorised individuals gaining access on foot or in vehicles were no longer occurring. This improvement provided Victoria Police with greater assurance that its onsite personnel and assets were effectively safeguarded against both intentional and opportunistic criminals.
